Can I change the reading speed?
The default is 200 words per minute. The slider runs from 100 to 500 in steps of 10.
How is the displayed time rounded?
The total estimate rounds to the nearest second, then divides into minutes and seconds. For example, 199 words at 200 wpm displays 1m 0s.
Does it detect difficult text?
No. It divides whitespace-separated word count by your chosen speed. Images, diagrams and text complexity are not included.
What separates paragraphs?
Two or more consecutive line breaks separate paragraphs. A single line break stays within the same paragraph.
Does my text leave the browser?
No. Estimates run locally. For words, sentences, and paragraphs together, use Word Counter.
